How You Might Be Feeling
Although each person's experience is a unique personal event, there are some common reactions that are normally experienced after a life threatening trauma. It is reassuring to know how others react in similar situations. You may experience:
- Shock
- Anger
- Numbness
- Shame
- Depression
- Fear
- Helplessness
- Sadness
- A need to be alone
- Feelings of guilt
- Problems with sleep
- Problems trusting others
- Physical symptoms
- Inability to concentrate
- Intrusive memories and flashbacks
These Reactions Are Normal

They may only last for short periods at a time. These reactions can be very unpleasant and distressing and finding a way to express your feelings and talk about your responses can help.
