The Centre Against Sexual Assault sees the importance of providing different forms of support
for victim/survivors and in addition to one on one counselling we also run group counselling and activities.
Groups help a victim/survivor to recognise that the feelings and reactions that they may be
experiencing after sexual assault may be the feelings and reactions experienced by others in the
same situation. Groups help the participants to make connections between their experiences.
Sharing experiences with others can be empowering and can help victim/survivors to participate in
some form of social action. CASA plans to conduct a range of groups throughout each year. These groups are
conducted when there is enough interest from clients. This means that between four and ten people need to
be interested in participating in a group before it can be run.
Groups that may be offered by casa could include adult survivors of child sexual assault, parents
of survivors, young female survivors of sexual assault and male survivors of sexual assault.
Group work is seen as complementary to other activities like one-on-one counselling and counsellor/advocates
will inform clients of the option of group activities both during and after counselling. As the groups offered by
CASA are differing all the time, if you are interested in finding out what groups are running or you wish to join
a group please contact CASA.
