Nurture Yourself
Sometimes it is necessary to Nurture yourself or give in to indulgences to
help you through flashbacks and other feelings that you may experience as a
victim/survivor of sexual assault.
A good way to start is to develop a list of things that you "never have time" to
do. Start your list by asking yourself and others, questions like "when I was a
child, what did I do to nurture myself?" and "what do you do to nurture
yourself?" and "what do you/I never have time to do?" Then include the things
that you would like to do to nurture yourself.
Below are a few suggestions of what you might like to do to nurture yourself.
Your list doesn't have to include all or even any of these things. They are just a
guide to help you create your own list.
- Going to a concert or play
- A trip to the country (or city)
- Playing Sports
- Having a facial, manicure or pedicure
- Doing some craft working. Eg. Sewing, painting, building.
- Singing
- Taking a bubble bath
- Baking for friends and family
- Taking an afternoon nap
- Having your hair done
- Window shopping
- Asking for a cuddle
- Learning something new
- Redecorating or rearranging your room
- Having friends over for afternoon tea
- Indulging in your favourite foods
- Sleeping in
- Crying
- Having a massage
- Buying yourself something special
