If you are a victim/survivor of sexual assault then you should be aware
of the symptoms of panic attacks and how you should deal with them.
Symptoms
- Noticeably quick or pounding heart rate
- Pain or other discomfort in chest
- Sweating
- Shaking
- Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
- Dizziness
- Tingling sensation
- Fear of going crazy or losing control
- Fear of dying
- Choking sensation
- Nausea
- Hot or cold flashes
Some of the more serious symptoms that come with panic attacks can also
be caused by physical illness so it is wise to have a medical check up also.
If you are experiencing a panic attack firstly DONT FIGHT THE PANIC!
and say to yourself out loud STOP! then you could use the following
Breathe To Relax Technique
or one like it. Once the symptoms subside continue what you were doing before
the attack.
